MEKONG MELODIES

Mekong Melodies is my concept for a music festival revolving around Southeast Asian culture. As the name suggests, l've included artists from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, through which the Mekong river flows. This was my way of reconnecting with my roots as a Cambodian-Canadian and showing solidarity with my fellow Southeast Asians with whom I share a border. For the logo, I wanted something that mimicked the Khmer script, hence the ornamental elements above the ‘M’ and ‘G’ (មេគង្គ). I chose a fluid, organic-looking typeface to convey a sense of movement and rhythm – fitting for a music festival. I opted for bold, bright colours to allude to the warm tropical environment of the Southeast. Iconography such as lotuses, banana leaves and palm trees evoke images of our geography and culture as well.
